Zombies have taken over the White House and it’s up to Leon S. Kennedy to save the day in the new trailer for Netflix’s upcoming series, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness. The new trailer premiered during the Resident Evil Showcase on Thursday, where Capcom revealed what’s next for the franchise.
The new Infinite Darkness trailer should look familiar if you’ve seen some of the series’ earlier teasers. While previous teasers had Claire exploring what looked like a haunted house, in the new trailer she’s in the White House with Leon and the two help President Graham escape.
Infinite Darkness takes place two years after the events of Resident Evil 4, when Leon was sent by President Graham to save his daughter, Ashley. Leon is invited to the White House to investigate who may have gotten their hands on presidential files, when suddenly the lights go out and a horde of zombies appears. While doing an investigation of her own, Claire visits the White House, where the two discover that there may be a link between their two mysteries.
Here’s Netflix’s official synopsis of the series:
In 2006, there were traces of improper access to secret Presidential files found in the White House’s computer network. American federal agent Leon S. Kennedy is among the group invited to the White House to investigate this incident, but when the lights suddenly go out, Leon and the SWAT team are forced to take down a horde of mysterious zombies. Meanwhile, TerraSave staff member Claire Redfield encounters a mysterious image drawn by a young boy in a country she visited, while providing support to refugees. Haunted by this drawing, which appears to be of a victim of viral infection, Claire starts her own investigation. The next morning, Claire visits the White House to request the construction of a welfare facility. There, she has a chance reunion with Leon and uses the opportunity to show him the boy’s drawing. Leon seems to realize some sort of connection between the zombie outbreak at the White House and the strange drawing, but he tells Claire that there is no relation and leaves. In time, these two zombie outbreaks in distant countries lead to events that shake the nation to its very core.
Eiichiro Hasumi, who has worked exclusively with live-action filmmaking, is directing Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness. Veteran composer Yugo Kanno (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Batman Ninja) will provide the score.
Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is set to debut in July 2021, but there’s more Resident Evil on the horizon as well. During the Resident Evil Showcase, Capcom also announced that filming has been completed for the Resident Evil live-action movie, which is titled Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City and will be released on Nov. 24. On top of that, there’s Resident Evil Village, the latest game in the series which is set to come out on May 7.
